Biography contributed by Modbury High School

Joseph William Dall was born in 1882. He was born in the town of Blackwood, South Australia and his parents were Elizabeth Dall and Joseph Dall.

At the age of 34 he enlisted into the Australian Infantry Force after working as a farmer for an unspecified amount of time. In the Australian Military he was assigned to the 10th Infantry Battalion where he would have trained and made friends with other soldiers who would fight beside him in the battles they would eventually be involved in.

He was wounded at the battle of the Menin Road on 20 September 1917, in the back and side. He did not recover well from this wound and in April 1918 was returned to Australia for medical discharge.
