Norman A'Vard was the age of 22 and currently single when he enlisted for the army in WW1. He embarked on the HMAT A68 Anchises on 26 August 1915. Norman A'Vard was discharged and returned home o Australia and was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal. On 19 August 1959 Norman A'Vard died and was buried in Ferntree Gully Cemetery

Commenced return to Australia on 2 February 1916 aboard HT Nestor disembarking on 13 March 1916 for discharged due to cervical rib
