Private Alwyne George Crack (Service No:WX967) enlisted in the Australian Army on 15 November 1939, He was attached to 2/11 Infantry Battalion 6th Division when he was taken PoW by the Germans in Crete on 30 May 1941. Private Crack was imprisoned at Stalag VIII-B (renumbered Stalag 344) near the village of Lamsdorf in Silesia. The Soviet Army reached the Camp on 17 March 1945 and Private Crack was recovered on 20 May 1945. He was Discharged on 11 October 1945.

Born in 1917 in Ravensthorpe WA, Archie was the seventh of eight children of George Winsor (aka Johns; b1877 in Newcastle, NSW) and second wife Maud Isabella Johns (nee Dawes; b1889 in Sydney, NSW). George was a Miner in Kalgoorlie WA in 1908 when he and Maud married in Boulder WA. George died from the Spanish Influenza (Kalgoorlie Miner: 12/9/1919).

Archie was adopted by by Joseph and Ethelda Crack following his father's death in 1919. Following his Discharge in October 1945, Archie married Daphne Verrill Brown (b1914 in South Perth, WA) - Daphne had served in the WRAAF and was a Nursing Assistant. Archie and Daphne settled in Perth WA where Archie was a Carpenter before moving to Fremantle where he was Plant Attendant and Refinery Foreman at BP Kwinana Oil Refinery. Archie died in 1972 and Daphne in 1994.
