Bernard came out Australia during 1913 from Scotland. He was working in Brisbane, Queensland, when he enlisted. He served at the Anzac Landing with the 15th Battalion and served at Gallipoli until he was evacuated sick in July 1915. He was eventually taken to England and rejoined his unit in France just prior to the Battle of Pozieres. He was killed in action near Mouquet Farm.
His older brother, 11528 Gnr. Edward Reynolds of the 2nd Division Ammunition Column was killed in action over two years later on 27 September 1918. They were the sons of Hugh and Annie McG. Reynolds, of Sydney, who had also emigrated to Australia from Dundee, Scotland.
