The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jprdan, published 2017, refer to pages 270 & 282. Prior to the war he was a clerk of Armadale Vic. He enlisted 24th Aug 1914 aged 19 years. He served with the 5th Infantry Battalion, rising to the rank of Captain during the war. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and a Mention In Dispatches for his activities. He survived the war, and was discharged from service 22nd Sept 1919. Captain Lillie wrote a paper of his service, and this has been donated to the Australian War Memorial, reference 3DRL/6557.
