Lindsay was the eldest child of Charles Lindsay Campbell (b1863 in Sussex, England) and Lilian Maud Bennett (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria). Charles (an Inquiry Officer/Inspector for the WA Government) and Lilian married in 1905 in Melbourne, Victoria. Charles was a pioneer aviator and in 1910 helped establish the QLD Aero Club in Brisbane, and was Director of the NSW Aero School in Sydney in 1911. In January 1912 he took his wife and children to England where he was awarded his Royal Aero Club Aviators Certificate on 4 June 1912 at The Bristol School in Salisbury Plain. He was flying a Brooklandson monoplane early in the morning of 3 August 1912 when the engine stalled, the plane fell to the ground and Charles was killed. A public appeal for funds was established to return his destitute wife and children to Australia. Lilian and the children arrived in Fremantle, WA in November 1912.
Lindsay was a Clerk in Perth WA when he married Dorothy Jean Dyson (b1913 in Perth, WA). In December 1943 Lindsay enlisted in the Australian Army and was a WOII attached to 39 LoC Salvage Section when he was Discharged in February 1946.
Lindsay and Dorothy settled in Perth, where he worked as a Clerk. Lindsay died in 1973.
