Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Wilfred Allan Thompson (Service No:W40318) enlisted in the ACMF on 9 December 1941 and was attached to 19 Garrison Battalion when he Discharged on 15 April 1942. On 23 February 1943, Leading Aircraftman Wilfred Allan Thompson (Service No:49318) enlisted in the RAAF. He was attached to 1 Airfield Construction Squadron when he was Discharged on 28 August 1946. Two brothers - James and John - also served in WWII.

Born in 1920 in Bridgetown WA, Wilfred was the second of three children of John (Jack) Joseph Thompson (b1886 in Durham, England) and Ellinor (Nell) Cumming (b1891 in Bridgewater, Victoria). Jack (a Draper's Apprentice in Durham) immigrated in 1912, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Armadale (he gave his occupation as Farm Hand). Nell had moved to Bridgetown WA with her mother in the early 1900's following her parents' divorce, and met Jack when he was a Boarder at her moher's Bridgetown Coffee Palace. Jack and Nell married in 1917, and following Jack's death in 1924 Nell remarried to Charles (Charlei) Unstead - a Farmer in Bridgetown. Charlie served with the ACMF in WWII.

Wilfred was a Farmer in Boyup Brook WA before WWII. Following his service Wilfred settled in Sydney NSW where he was a Public Servant - a Clerk. Wilfred died in 1961.
