Corporal John Alexander Harley Boulton (Service No:NX98401) enlisted in the AIF as a Private on 6 October 1942 with 1 Machine Gun Training Battalion, and was attached to 41 Port Landing Craft Coy on 8 December 1942 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Milne Bay on board the Charon. Private Boulton embarked on 9 April 1944 from Terapo for Thursday Island en route for Brisbane on board the Thedens. Promoted to Corporal on 27 November 1944, he served in Torokina with 54 Port Craft Coy (7 August 1945 - 20 December 1945), and was attached to 41 Port Landing Craft Coy at Discharge on 20 March 1946.
John was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1922, youngest of two children of Arthur Harley Boulton (b1899 in Sydney, New South Wales) and his first wife Helen Young (b1900 in Midlothian, Scotland) - Helen immigrated in 1912, arriving in Sydney on board the Omrah. Arthur served in the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:622) and was a Coach Trimmer in 1919 when he and Helen married in Kogarah, where they settled and raised their family. In 1924 Arthur left his family and moved to New Zealand, remarrying following his divorce in 1936. Helen settled in Kogarah, where she raised her family and worked as a Nurse - remarrying in 1936. Helen died in 1941.
John was working in Sydney as a Margarine Maker in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army, and in 1944 in Sydney married June Murial Read (b1924 in Sydney, New South Wales) - June was working as a Machinist in Hurstville. Following his Discharge from the Army, John and June settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and John was a Moulder. June died in 2003 and John in 2013.
