Biography contributed by Robert Wight

Unusually, Pte 2335 Martin Joseph Kirwan has two separate embarkation roll records and two separate SN's (2335 & 2506).

He initially embarked with 3/3 Pioneers at Melbourne on board HMAT Karroo on 18 September 1916, however was AWL and failed to re-embark on the Karroo when it left Fremantle on 29 September 1916.

He eventually re-appeared and embarked at Fremantle on board the HMAT Port Macquarie on 13 October 1916, after being re-allocated the (temporary) SN 2506 and taken on strength of 44th Battalion reinforcements for the voyage.

He transferred back to SN 2335 and the 3rd Pioneer Btn after he dis-embarked in England in December 1916.
