Acddress at the time of enlistment was given as Sailors Home, Sydney, NSW. Prior to enlisting he had served in the Royal Australian Navy for eight months.
Son of Dennis O'Brien and Catherine O'Brien of Otley, Yorkshire, England.
Husband of Clara O'Brien nee Stockley of John Street, Gravesend, Kent, England. William and Clara had married during 1896c.
Commenced return to Australia on 26 September 1917 aboard HT Borda disembarking on 21 November 1917 at Melbourne, the on 22 November he re-embarked HT Suevic for onward travel to Sydney.
