Biography contributed by Steve Larkins

Frederick Alfred PARKER (1898-1966)

Frederick Alfred Parker was born at Wandearah West via Port Pirie on 21 September 1898 to Henry Guesdon and Ida Louise Parker (nee WOLTER(.  He was one of 8 siblings.

Frederick Parker was a dairy farmer at Murray Bridge when he joined the AIF late in the war aged 19.  After induction and basic training he was assigned to the 27th Infantry Battalion and was in one of the last reinforment drafts to leave Australia for the war on board HMAT A37 Barambah on 31 August 1918.

He arrived in the UK too late to be sent to the Front Line before the Armistice.

Following the Armistice, Frederick was at the end of avery long queue for repatriation to Australia, as the priority was 'first on first off'.  When the nominal roll was compiled he was still isted as 'serving abroad'.  Records indicate he awas based at various administrative and training establishments in the UK including the sprawling Tidworth Campp on the Salisbury Plain.

He returned to Australia in late 1919 aboard HMAT Aeneas, and was discharged on 30 January 1920.

On return to Australia and following his discharge, he married Hazel Nora WOLLASTON on 4 April 1923.  They were to raise 8 shildren; Joyce Robert, Albert, Edward, Lorna, Hazel, Noel and Kevin.

He did not serve in WW2.

His RSL records indicate that at one point he was resident in Port Lincoln

Frederick Parker died at the Repatriation General Hospital Daw Park on 21 November 1968.  Later buried with him in the grave was his wife Hazel (dec 1997) and two of his sons, Edward and Robert.  Hi grave was marked with a Headstone detailing his AIF Service on 3 Dec 25  by the Headstone Project, representive of which compiled most of this biography.  There are errors of fact in the original though.  He did not servie in any 'Occupation Force' as far as can be edetermined from his service record.  He was awarded the British War Medal, but not the Victory Medal.
