Biography contributed by Bruce Taylor

FAREWELL AT BARRINGTON -To Corporal Don Beaton..
With the first batch of A.l.F. recruits to leave Gloucester were men of the local Troop of the 16th L.H. Machine Gun Regiment, and ever since there has been a steady transter of personnel from this Militia unit to the A.I.F., mostly to Machine Gun and Cavalry units.

Recently at Gloucester a farewell was given to five of the younger boys of this militia unit, and last night at Barrington another of their mates, Corporal Don. Beaton, was tendered a social and presentation.

Mr. Joe Atkins was Chairman, and he and Messrs. Bagley and Grant paid a warm tribute to the high qualities of Don Beaton and his parents.

Mr. Arch McRae presented the guest with a fountain pen on behalf of the Barrington folk, and Mr. Tom Hicks handed him a wristlet watch from the Gloucester District War Chest Fund.

Corporal Don. Beaton briefly expressed his thanks and said he felt it is duty to join his mates in the A.l.F.

The evening was filled in with dancing to music supplied by Misses Brown and Wharton and Mr. Alan Mclnnes, and the Barrington ladies supplied a bountiful supper.
The farewell was arranged by the Barrington Hall Committee.
