Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
“To lose both her sons (all she had), in the one month, was a fearful blow to her poor soul”.
Reference to Mrs Emily Hale, the mother of two sons who enlisted from Dorakin, Wickepin, Western Australia
Frank's brother 964 Pte. Henry George Hale, 28th Battalion AIF, was seen to be hit by a shell and killed in action 4th/6th August, 1916. He was 26 years of age. His body was never found and he is remembered on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial France.
Private Frank Leslie Hale, 28th Battalion AIF would not have been far away when Henry was killed. The brothers were both in C Company. Frank was badly wounded in the next few hours, near Pozieres on the 5th August 1916. Shot in the abdomen, he lingered for just over 2 weeks before he succumbed to his wounds in the 13th General Hospital at Boulogne.
