Private George Looney Corteen (Service No:W8297) enlisted in the ACMF on 25 April 1942 and served with No 9 Northam Battalion VDC until Discharge on 31 December 1944.

Born in 1897 at Maughold on the Isle of Man in the United Kingdom, George was the third of ten children of Joseph Looney Corteen (b1867 at Maughold on the Isle of Man) and Mary Kneen (b1866 at Jurby on the Isle of Man). Joseph (a Farm Servant) and Mary (a General Servant) married in 1893 at Maughold on the Isle of Man where they settled and raised their family and Joseph worked as a Farmer's Manager and then a Farmer.

George was a Farmer's son when he immigrated in December 1923, arriving in Fremantle WA in January 1924 on board the Esperance Bay. George settled at Wagin where he was a Farm Hand before settling on Waverley Farm at Konongorring via Toodyay, WA where he was a Farmer. In 1938 George married Rosalind Millicent Nelson (b1912 in Perth, WA) and they settled on Waverley Farm at Konongorrin nr Toodyay where they raised their family and George was a Farmer. By 1963 George and Rosalind were living in Kwinana nr Fremantle WA where George died in 1967. Rosalind was in Pinjarra when she died in 1998.
