Trooper Leo John Shaw (Service No:T42747) initially enlisted in the Militia in 1939 (Trooper: Service No:497047) and was attached to 22nd Light Horse Regiment for two months - he was Medically Unfit (ankle infection). Trooper Shaw then enlisted in the ACMF on 14 April 1941, and was attached to 22 Motor Regiment on 6 March 1942 when he was Transferred to Reserves - Timber Worker.

Leo was born in Railton, Tasmania in 1919, eleventh of twelve children of Mark Louis Shaw (b1875 in Westbury, Tasmania) and Bertha Millicent Bramich (b1978 at Port Sorrell, Tasmania). Mark (a Labourer) and Bertha married in 1896 in Mersey, Tasmania, and lived in LaTrobe, Railton and Mole Creek, where they raised their family and Mark was a Labourer. In the mid 1920s Mark and Bertha settled at Liena via Deloraine, where Mark was a Farmer.

Leo worked in Liena as a Bushman and Labourer, and was a Sawmiller/Timber Worker in 1944 in Deloraine, where he married Connie Smith (abt 1925 at Mole Creek via Deloriaine). Leo and Connie settled at Mole Creek, where they raised their family and Leo worked as a Saw Miller and Timber Feller until his death in 1976. Connie died in 2014.
