Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

One of three brothers who served in WWII, Captain Ronald Griffith Miller (Service Nos:N3993/NX136366) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 22 January 1939 as a Trooper, and was a Captain attached to 6th Motor Regiment 1 Cavalry Division on 22 September 1942 when he enlisted 'in the field' in the AIF. Described as 'A very responsible officer who worked hard - good driver and excellent Instructor with clear knowledge of subject' (NAA; August 1942), Captain Miller served with 4 Motor Regiment, and was attached to 6th Motor Regiment 1 Cavalry Division at Discharge on 28 May 1945.

Born in Manildra, NSW in 1914, Ron was eldest of five children of Claude Giffin Miller (b1887 in Molong, NSW) and Jessie Maud Griffith (b1888 in Molong, NSW). Claude and Jessie married in 1913 in Molong, where they raised their family and Claude was a Farmer/Grazier. Claude served in the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:54244), and in 1923 was seriously injured when the car in which he was a passenger, was hit by a train at a level crossing in Parkes - his mother and brother Wilfred were killed.

Ron worked as a Farmer/Grazier on the family property - Moolahway at Manildra via Molong. In 1944 in Sydney, he married Erna (Lee) Leon Bourne (b1923 in Pyree via Nowra, NSW) - Lee was a Kindergarten Teacher. Following his Discharge, Ron and Lee settled at Moolahway, where they raised their family and Ron was a Farmer/Grazier. Heavily involved in his local community, Ron was elected Shire Councillor (Boree Shire), and appointed as a member of the Country Board of Appeal Panel, and as a Trustee of Public Land. In recognition of his service to Primary Industry and Local Government, in 1978 Ron was made a Member (Civil) of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), Both Ron and Lee died in 2006 - Ron in January and Lee in February.
