Private Gordon Steven Tyrer (Service No:W71510) served with the ACMF from 25 October 1942 to 24 November 1944 with 11 North West Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps.

Born in 1906 in Claremont, Fremantle WA, Gordon was the second of four children of William Naylor Tyrer (b1873 in Bairnsdale, Victoria) and Laura Trigg (b1868 in Perth, WA). William (a Bank Clerk) and Laura married in Fremantle WA in 1903 and lived in Bunbury, Moora and Toodyay where William was Manager of the National Bank. Both William and Laura died unexpectedly - William in 1918 and Laura in 1919 - leaving four orphans aged between fourteen and eight years of age.

Gordon attended Scotch College in Claremont WA and in 1927 had a General Store/Barber Shop in Dowerin. He then moved to Mulga Downs Station in Roebourne WA where he worked as an Asbestos Miner. In 1941 in Roebourne, Gordon married Annie Kelly (b1888 in Purnim, Victoria) - Annie was a Business Proprietor in Cue WA. Gordon and Annie lived in Roebourne where Gordon was a Mine Owner. Annie died in 1958 and Gordon in 1975.
