Place of birth given as mistakenly as Philadelphia, NSW later corrected to Philadelphia, USA. Daniel gave his nationality as Irish-American.
Son of Daniel O'Donnell and Mary O'Donnell nee Fordham of 'Clifford House', Spring Hill, Brisbane, QLD.
On 27 December 1916 Daniel deserted at Dakar, Senegal later re-embarking before disembaking in Plymouth, England on 14 January 1917.
Commenced return to Australia on 6 June 1918 aboard HT Barambah going AWOL at Capetown. He re-embarked HT Essex on 7 July 1918 for Australia disembarking on 1 August 1918 at Sydney for onward travel to Brisbane
