Second eldest of three brothers who served in WWII, Private Lawrence Edwin Flint (Service Nos:W7644/WX35888) served with the Senior Cadets in 1931 and the Militia (Private; Service No:271991) in 1941 before enlisting in the ACMF on 15 December 1941 as a Driver (classified Carpenter) attached to 11th Battalion. On 12 November 1942 Private Flint enlisted in the AIF and served with HQ 3 Australian Corps and 26 Australian Works Coy. Private Flint was attached to 121 Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot (BIPOD) NSW at Discharge on 18 March 1946.

Lawrie was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1913, second of four children of William Burrows Flint Jnr (b1881 in Bendigo, Victoria) and May Theresa Nielsen (b1885 in Adelaide, South Australia). William and May were both living Gwalia via Kalgoorlie before their marriage in Boulder in 1910 - William was a Prospector. In 1912 William and May moved to Perth, where they raised their family and William was a Salesman.

Lawrie was working in Perth as a Carpenter's Assistant when he enlisted in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge, Lawrie returned to North Perth, where he lived with his father and younger brother Roy. Lawrie died in 1998.
