Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Christopher Clive Sandilands (Service No:W31532) served in the ACMF with 19 Garrison Battalion from 27 September 1941 to 6 July 1942.

Chris was born in Boulder, WA in 1914, fourth of seven children of Christopher Sandilands (b1874 in Bulleen, Victoria) and Phoebe (Tottie) Louisa Totting Cooke (b1889 in Melbourne, Victoria). Christopher and Tottie met in Boulder, WA in 1906, and Christopher was working as a Teamster when they married in 1908. They lived in Boulder, where Christopher was a Surface Press Hand at the Great Boulder Mine and Drill Hall Instructor with the Militia, before moving to Cottesloe in Fremantle in 1917. Christopher served in WWI (Sergeant; Service No:7027) and following his Discharge, the family returned to Boulder where Christopher was Secretary to the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperal League of Australia (RSSILA) - later the RSL. In the 1920s Christopher and Tottie moved their family to Kendenup via Albany, where Christopher was a Farmer.

Chris, a Gardener in Kendenup via Albany, was married in Mt Barker, WA in 1939 to Elizabeth Sylvia Smith (b1918 in Mt Barker, WA). Chris and Elizabeth settled in Kendenup, where they raised their family and Chris was a Farmer. Chris died in 1994 and Elizabeth in 2002.
