Son of Frederick George Usher and Mary Ann Usher nee Miller of Bay Street, Brighton, Victoria.

Brother of Frederick George Usher who was killed in action on 19 July 1916 while serving with the 59th Battalion and has no known grave his name appears on Panel 18 of the VC Corner Memorial.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 March 1918 aboard HT Kenilworth Castle disembarking at Durban. on 28 April 1918 he re-embarked HS Field Marshall to continue travel to Australia. Disembarked on 22 May 1918.

During 1931c Reginald married Nina de Pinno in Victoria
