George Henry Fulwood was born in 1887 on the 17th of April at Johnsburg (renamed to Johnburgh), South Australia. Fulwood’s Mother’s name was Sarah Jane Fulwood who died on the 19th of October 1917 in Strathalbyn. Fulwood had a brother who became his next of kin after Sarah’s death. Fulwood’s occupation before World War I was a warder, a guard at a prison who is in charge of prisoners. His religious belief was Methodist and he was single prior to the war. 

George Henry Fulwood was 28 years old and 4 months when he enlisted on the 10th of September 1915 in Adelaide. He was 5 foot 8 ¾ inches, 156lbs, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and with perfect vision. George Henry Fulwood embarked on the 18th of November 1915 with his unit at the time, the 9th Light Horse Regiment. They embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on the HMAT A2 Geelong.

On the 25th of May 1917 Fulwood passed as a gunner on the 26th Hotchkiss course, meaning that he now had the ability to use the Hotchkiss gun. Some battles Fulwood participated in based off his records was the first Battle of Gaza and the Egypt uprising 1919. He was unable to participate in the second attack in the Battle of Gaza as he went to hospital the day of the attack. When in the war, Fulwood suffered from gastric fever, which is a bacterial infection occurring in the intestines and bloodstream caused by Salmonella bacteria and other common sicknesses. Later in the war, Fulwood was appointed to Lance Corporal.

Fulwood returned to Australia on the Oxfordshire disembarking 10th of August 1919. Fulwood was discharged on the 3rd of October 1919, after his return to Australia. 

After the war, Fulwood  married on the 14th of August 1921 to Adeline Vera Jane Fulwood and became an orchardist in Waikerie, South Australia. George Henry Fulwood and Adeline Vera Jane Fulwood had 5 children together, John, Joy, Brian, Dawn and Robert.

Fulwood enlisted to World War 2 on the 20th of May 1942 at the age of 55 and was put in the 7th Battalion (later transferring to the 8th Battalion), Volunteer Defence Corps as a Lance Corporal. Fulwood was discharged from World War 2 on the 21st of September 1945 after disbandment of his corps.

Fulwood died on the 4th of April 1961 at the age of 73, his grave being located at Waikerie.
