Distinguished Conduct Medal
'From 25th April to 5th May, 1915, during operations near Gaba Tepe, for exceptionally gallant work and devotion to duty under heavy fire.'

Military Medal
'From 9th to 11th June, 1917, during operations East of Messines, this man took charge of "A" Section of Bearers after his Sergeant had been wounded. he organised his bearers with conspicuous ability and showed utter disregard of personal danger while working over an area subjected to the most intense shell fire. On one occasion he went back through an Artillery barrage to bring in a wounded comrade. By his coolness and confidence he gave courage to the men working under him. This soldier was awarded the D.C.M. for gallant conduct during the Gallipoli campaign.'
