A Farmer in September 1940 when he enlisted in the Australian Army, Alfred Ian Mills was a Private (Service No:NX47758) attached to 4 RRB when he Discharged in January 1941.

Alfred grew up in Old Bonalbo, NSW, the seventh of fourteen children of George Mills (b1872 in Omigal, NSW) and Elizabeth Jane Hamilton (b1880 in Parkes, NSW). George was a Labourer in 1901 when he and Elizabeth married in Wellington nr Dubbo, NSW. By 1919 the family had moved to Acacia Creek at Old Bonalbo, NSW where George was a Dairy Farmer. He and Elizabeth retired to Brisbane, QLD in the late 1950s.

In the 1930s Alfred was a Farmer in Mt Ulva, Old Bonalbo NSW and in 1939 he married Alice Maud Keable Ross (b1916 in Glenn Innes, NSW). The couple married in Murwillumbah, NSW and in September 1940 Alfred enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge in January 1941, Alfred and Alice lived in Brisbane, QLD where ALfred worked as Turner Machinist and Labourer until 1948 when they returned to Old Bonalbo, NSW. They lived at Duck Creek in Old Bonalbo and Alfred worked as a Labourer until the mid 1950s when he became a Farmer at Bonnie Doon in Old Bonalbo. In the early 1960s Alfred and his family moved to Liston in Bonalbo NSW where Alfred was a Postal Officer before relocating to Armidale NSW in the early 1970s. Alfred worked as a Cleaner in Armidale until he and Alice retired to Brisbane QLD. Alfred died in 1993 and Alice in 2014.
