My father was called "Jimmy" by his mother from when he was a baby for a reason lost in time. His father's name was Frank Johnson. Jimmy believed he had been christened James Frank Johnson and that is what he wrote on his Army enlistment form. It came as quite a surprise to him when his unit commander informed him that his birth certificate showed his name as Francis Lyall Edwin Johnson.
