Private Leslie Joseph Walker (Service No:WX8323) initially enlisted in the ACMF as a Sapper (Service No:W235096) with 7th Workshop and Park Coy (he gave a different DoB for each enlistment). Sapper Walker Discharged on 20 August 1940 to enlist the next day in the AIF. Private Walker served as a Platelayer and Driver Mechanic with 1st Railway Construction Coy in Palestine (25 September 1940 - 26 January 1943) and was Discharged on 12 March 1944 (medically unfit).
Born in 1903 in Staffordshire England. Les was the second of three children of Joseph Walker (b1867 in Gloucestershire, England) and Mary Smith (b1872 in Staffordshire, England). Joseph (a Coal Merchant's Assistant) and Mary (a Domestic Servant) married in 1895 in Staffordshire, England where they lived and Joseph worked as a Canal Boatman and Coal Carter until 1915 when he enlisted in the British Army (Corporal; Regimental No:13775). Joseph served with the Gloucestershire Regiment 8th Service Battalion and was KiA in France in 1916.
Les immigrated to Western Australia and was a Truck Driver in Guildford WA by 1927 when he married Euphemia Hay Bowes (b1904 in Glasgow, Scotland) - Euphemia was a Domestic Servant in 1925 when she immigrated, arriving in Albany WA on board the Demosthenes. Les and Euphemia settled in Guildford WA where Les worked as a Truck Driver/Carrier before serving in the Army. Following his Discharge, Les worked as a Labourer in Guildford WA. Euphemia died in 1955 and in 1956 Les remarried to Evelyn Maud Brady (nee Turner; b1915 in Blackwood, WA). Les and Evelyn both died on 7 January 1957.
