"HEROES OF THE GREAT WAR
NESS.—In loving memory of Private Sydney Ness, killed in action in France, August 12, 1918.
Over to France, our sad thoughts roam,
To our loved one's grave, so far from home.
But sweet is the memory he left behind
Of a life that was true, brave, and kind.
But the Last Post now is sounded,
They have laid aside his gun;
God has called our dear boy from us,
His duty nobly done. —Inserted by his loving parents, brothers, and sisters, Mount Drummond, West Coast, and his loving brother, Nelson, still abroad.
NESS.—In loving memory of Private Sydney Ness, killed in action in France on August 12, 1918.
When we see the boys returning,
Our hearts are filled with pain
To think you are not there, dear Syd,
And will never come home again. —Ever remembered by his loving brother and sister-in-law, Angus and Olive Ness, Mount Hope." - from the Adelaide Advertiser 12 Aug 1919 (nla.gov.au)
