A Dairy Farmer in Mullimbimby NSW in 1942 when he enlisted in the Australian Army (Private; Service No:NX81630), Mervyn was attached to 5 Reinforcements 2/3 Pioneers Battalion when he Discharged in November 1944.

Mervyn Ridley Mills (b1907 in Wellington nr Dubbo NSW) was the fifth of fourteen children of George Mills (b1872 in Omigal, NSW) and Elizabeth Jane Hamilton (b1880 in Parkes, NSW). George (a Labourer) and Elizabeth married in 1901 in Wellington NSW where they settled before moving their family to Acacia Creek in Old Bonalbo NSW around 1917. George was a Dairy Farmer in Old Bonalbo until he and Elizabeth retired to Brisbane QLD in the mid 1950s.

Mervyn worked as a Labourer at Acacie Creek in Old Bonalbo before moving to Mullumbimby where in 1933 he married Hazel Eileen Jessie Ann Maxwell (b 1910 in Murwillumbah, NSW). Mervyn and Hazel settled in Murwillumbah NSW where Mervyn was a Dairy Farmer. Mervyn died in 1977 and Hazel in 2001.
