Allan was the fifth of eight children of Arthur Allen Ball (b1871 in Gloucestershire, England) and Ada Daisy Heathcote (b1887 in Kalgoorlie, WA). Arthur (a Fitter) and Ada married in 1904 in Kalgoorlie, WA where they settled and raised their family. Arthur worked as an Electrician.

Allan was a Labourer in Northam, WA in April 1940 when he enlisted in the Australian Army (Private; Service No:WX2325). He was attached to 3rd Reinforcements 2/11 Battalion when he was Discharged in August 1944.

In 1955 Allan married Doris Eileen Cole (b1920 in Perth, WA) - Doris was a Dressmaker. Allan and Doris settled in Perth WA where they raised their family and Allan worked as a Labourer. Allan died in 1980 and Doris in 2013.
