On the 15 August 1884 John married Ellen Mary Langley, and had 5 children. They divorced and he then married Beatrice Mary Ricketts in 1901, two children but divorced in 1903, he went onto marry Mabel Bertha Hardcastle, whom he spent the rest of his life with.
