His brothers, Privates Theodore Frederick [25] and Wilfred Richard [26] both fell at the First Battle of Gaza 26 March 1917 whilst serving with the 1/4th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 53rd Division. Both are commemorated on The Jerusalem Memorial.

He was 23 and was born in Tandridge, the son of William and Clara Seaward Wicking,later of Fullin's Cottage, Sea Lane, Ferring, Worthing, England.
