47 years ago today, on the 29th June 1973, Lance Corporal Francis (Frank) James Baguley, 34th Battalion, clerk (J. Ireland & Co. Pty Ltd., Newcastle, N.S.W.), from Dent Street, Merewether, New South Wales, father of three, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 80. METHODIST 4-29. 57.

Born at Cunnamulla, New South Wales on the 26th October 1892 to Walter and Eliza Baguley of Hunter Street, Newcastle, N.S.W. (Breckenridge & Co.) and Auckland Street, Newcastle, N.S.W. and 80 Lower Church Street, Newcastle West, N.S.W.; husband of Clara Manning Baguley nee Rye (married 1921, Merewether, N.S.W., died 1975), Frank enlisted August 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 16.7.1917 (GSW left thigh and back, mild - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article134855129), 30.3.1918 (GSW left arm, severe, amputated - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article140973282, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article140985320, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article140984736), Mr Baguley returned home October 1918, discharged May 1919 as medically unfit (amputee).

Frank’s name has been inscribed on the Merewether (Mitchell Park) Memorial Gates, Merewether St. Augustine's Church Roll of Honour, Messrs. J. Ireland Limited Roll of Honour (photo), and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

A member of the Newcastle Rifle Club.
Mr Baguley has been accorded a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip for his service and sacrifice.
