Private Stanley Augustus Williams (Service No:VX65408) enlisted in the Army on 30 October 1941, with Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Training Depot before posting to 108 General Transport Coy. Private Williams served with 2/45 Transport Platoon in Morotai, Balikapan and Tarakan and was Discharged on 17 December 1945.
Born in 1910 in Glamorganshire in Wales, Stan was the youngest of three children of Augustus Williams (b1875 in Glamorganshire, Wales) and Beatrice James (b1878 in Somerset, England). Augustus (a Miner) and Beatrice (a Boot Machinist) married in 1903 in Glamorganshire, Wales where they raised their family and Augustuus worked in a Colliery - as an Engineman, Repairer and Miner. Augustus served in the Army in WWI with the Welsh Regiment (Sergeant; Regimental No:26915) and was WiA in Frnace. Eldest son Gwilym (a Coal Miner) immigrated in 1927, arriving Melbourne on board the Jervis Bay and was followed in 1929 by Augustus, Beatrice and two children on board the Themistocles. The family settled in Melbourne where Augustus and his two sons worked as Labourers. Beatrice died in 1939 and Augustus in 1940.
Stan was a Miner when he immigrated in 1929, and through the 1930s worked as a Labourer. In 1940 in Melbourne he married Annie Gertrude Scott (nee McGregor; b1895 in Beaufort, Victoria). Stan and Annie were in Melbourne and Stan was a Munitions Worker when he enlisted in the AIF in 1941. Following his Discharge, Stan and Annie settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Stan was a Foundry Worker and then Faceman - worked at the face of the quarry/mine. Stan died in 1971 and Annie in 1972.
