Private John Patrick Hegarty (Service Nos:WX16256/WX21717) initially enlisted in the RAAF (Service No:406280) on 7 October 1940 and was an Aircraftman II attached to 1 Initial Training School Somers Vic when he Discharged on 30 June 1941. He enlisted in the AIF on 28 August 1941 and served with 3 and 13 Training Battalions before his final Discharge on 21 January 1943.
Born in 1921 in Boulder WA, John was the eldest of four children of Daniel (Jack) Patrick Hagerty (b1893 in Toodyay, WA) and Helena Grace Jones (b1901 in Greenough, WA). Jack worked as a Porter and Shunter with WAGR and was a Shunter in Geraldton WA in 1921 when he and Helena married. Jack and Helena lived in Kalgoorlie, Collie, Fremantle, Katanning, Mullewa and Merredin where Jack worked as a Shunter and Guard. Following his death in Beverley in 1932, Helena and the children settled in Perth WA.
John was working as a Salesman in Perth WA in 1940 when he enlisted in the RAAF and was a Soldier in Perth in 1942 when he married Doris (Red) May Davies (b1921 in Perth, WA). By 1947 John and Red had Divorced and John was in Kalgoorlie WA working as a Labourer. In 1963 John was a Station Hand at Lorna Glen Station via Wiluna and was in Perth by 1968 and working as a Labourer. John settled in Perth where he worked as a Labourer and Salesman. John died in 2000.
