Private Bernard Edward Glew (Service No:WX5025) enlisted in the Australian Army on 23 July 1940, and was attached to 13 Training Battalion when he was Discharged (Medical) on 21 February 1941.

Born in 1902 in New Norcia WA, Bernard was the fifth of seven children of Samuel Glew (b1861 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Margaret Crooks (b1864 in Melbourne, Victoria. Samuel (a Brickmaker) and Margaret married in 1884 in Melbourne, Victoria and by the late 1890s had moved with their family to Perth, WA.

In 1931 Bernard was a Labourer in Perth, WA when he married Hilda Winifred Whitehouse (b1909 in Yorkshire, England) - Hilda had immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1929, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Moreton Bay. The couple Divorced in 1938 and both remarried - Bernard in 1944 to Annie Charlotte McLeod (nee Williams; b1912 in Perth, WA) - Annie was a Widow. Bernard and Annie settled in Perth WA where Bernard worked as a Linesman, Dresser and Attendant. Bernard died in 1973 and Annie in 2006.
