Private Hugh McCluggage (Service No:VX42968) served in the AIF from 29 June 1940 to 2 December 1942. Private McCluggage was attached to 2/5 Training Battalion at Discharge - Medically Unfit.
Hugh was born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1911, eighth of ten children of Robert McCluggage (b1865 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland) and Agnes Gault (b1875 in County Antrim, Ireland). Robert was a Farmer when he and Agnes married in 1898 in County Antrim, where they settled and raised their family and Robert was a Farmer.
Hugh was a Shop Assistant when he immigrated in 1938, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Largs Bay. He was in Allensford, Warrnambool working as a Farm Labourer in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he worked in Warrnambool as a Factory Hand and in 1945 in Mortlake, married Joyce Holdsworth (b1925 in Terang, Victoria). Hugh and Joyce settled in Allansford where they raised their family and Hugh was a Dairy Farmer. Hugh died in 1990 and Joyce in 2007.
