Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Lance Corporal Clive Cambridge (Service No:NX53055) enlisted in the AIF on 5 July 1940 as a Private and served in the Middle East (9 April 1941 - 17 March 1942) and in New Guinea (2 August 1942 - 9 July 1944) with 2/33 Australian General Depot Coy ASC. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 29 December 1944, he served in Morotai (23 April 1945 - 4 September 1945) and was attached to 2/44 Transport Platoon at Discharge on 23 November 1945. Older brothers Thomas and Keith served in WWI, and Thomas and Rolf served in WWII.

Clive (known as Nipper to his family) was born in Windsor, NSW in 1904, youngest of eight children of Thomas William Cambridge (b1860 in Sydney, NSW) and Alice  Amelia Haslem (b1859 in Maitland, NSW). Thomas was a Letter Carrier - 3rd generation, following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps - in 1886 when he and Alice married in Windsor, where they settled and raised their family. Thomas delivered the mail on horseback, and was renowned for 'his unwavering courtesy and obliging nature' (Trove: Obituary 1942).

Clive worked in Sydney as a Laundry Carter before enlisting in the AIF in 1940 and. following his Discharge, returned to Sydney where he worked as a Driver. In the mid 1960s in Sydney, Clive married Effie Wynne Wilson (nee Morris; b1906 in Sydney, NSW). The couple settled in Potts Point in Sydney, where Clive worked as a Driver. Clive died in 1981 and Effie in 2000.
