IN COURT
A charge against a soldier apparently stone deaf was adjourned sine die in the Launceston Police Court this morning. Defendant could not hear the charge or any questions, even when shouted in his ear. Lionel Goulfred Brown was charged with having been drunk and disorderly in Dry-street last night. Sergt. R. H, Westell prosecuted, and Messrs. W. H. Daymond. and A. J. Monaghan, Js.P., were on the bench. After the complaint had been read defendant informed the bench that he could not hear. When he read the complaint he pleaded guilty. Senior Constable" C.. Berrymarn said he saw defendant in Dry-street about 6.30 last night. He was drunk and disorderly, and would not go home He went into a hotel and witness followed to remove him. The licensee was already taking this action. Brown became offensive" when he was removed, and used indecent language. iLeut. W. H. Ray, O.C. No. 3 Provost Corps, addressed the bench on behalf of Brown, and said a discharge from the army was being sought for the defendant because of medical unfitness. - January 1943
