Private William Robert Clarence Gane (Service No:WX18345) enlisted in the Australian Army on 30 December 1941 and was attached to 13 Training Battalion when he Discharged on 3 March 1942.

Born in 1914 in Geraldton WA, William was the eldest of two children of William Gane Snr (b1875 in Hotham, Victoria) and Sarah Ann Clarkson (b1880 in Greenough, WA). William Snr (a Carrier) and Sarah married in 1900 in Geraldton WA where they settled and raised their family. William Snr worked as a Carrier and WAGR Employee before he and Sarah retired to Margaret River WA in 1950.

William worked as a Butcher in Geraldton WA where in 1934 he married Beulah Dixon (b1915 in Fremantle, WA). By 1941 William and Beulah were living at Picton Junction nr Bunbury where William was a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he worked as a Butcher in Picton Junction before moving to Ross Brook where he was a Dairy Farmer for ten years. By 1963 William and Beulah had moved to Geraldton WA where William was a Road Worker with Main Roads Department. In 1972 they were living in York WA where Beulah was a Cook and William the Cook's Offsider. After a brief stay in Mt Magnet, they retired to Mandurah where William died in 1983. Beulah died in 2011.
