Geat Pop
I was able to grow up with this great man until I was 15 years old I’m and now 31 his wife sadly passed away the year before
Growing up myself and my sister we where extremely close with pop weekly visits to pop and nanna growing up we also spent many nights staying with them we would ask pop questions about the war and what it was like as kids he didn’t say much about it I guess he didn’t want to scare us which is fair enough
Over the years as we grew older and we would ask more questions he started to tell us a little bit he would say the trucks where hard to drive sometimes due to the roads or it would be so cold he couldn’t stay warm simple things still. my year 8 Anzac story was about pop he told me a fair few more things for it somethings where very close to his heart
A month or so before pop passed my sister was off on a big trip over seas he sat with his Kate as he called her for hours and he opened up to her.
the next day I spent hours with pop like normal he also opened up to me about the war the things he had to see and seen done he told me things that actually gave me some bad dreams after our conversation we spoke about some other things but one saying stuck with me and I ended up with it tattoos on me that being only god can judge me for those things he also said he was happy to serve to help give us all the future we deserved
I knew him for 15 years did I look at my pop any different after the things he told me me no no I did not it made me look at him with a much different level of love and respect then what I already had
Pop passed away peacefully in 2008 leaving behind his children grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren
