C. H. ANDERSON enlisted in September and embarked as Gunner in 4th Battery, 2nd F.A. Brigade, on 20th October 1914. He arrived in
Egypt in December 1914 and took part in the Landing on Gallipoli on 25th April 1915, and in subsequent operations on the Peninsula till November 1915.
He obtained his commission on 12th August 1916 and was transferred to 108th Battery A.F.A. 3rd Division. He arrived in
France in December 1916 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 5th March 1917.
He took part in the Battles of Messines and Passchendaele in 1917
and in the final offensive of 1918 until September, having been transferred to 1st Section 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column.
He returned to Australia on 23rd November 1918 with 1st
contingent of Anzacs on six months' furlough from France, and in consequence of Armistice did not return to the front, and his appointment was terminated on 24th January 1919.
