Arnold was the second of five children of William (Bill) Ecclestone (b1877 in Preston, WA) and Ada Jane Grace Dawson (b1879 in Vasse, WA). Bill (a Farmer in Boyanup) and Ada married in 1903 in Bunbury, WA. Bill was a Farmer in Boyanup, Donnybrook and Northam before settling in wagerup.

Arnold was a Farmer in Wagerup in 1935 when he married Edith Minnie Edmonds (b1905 in Harvey WA). By 1940 Arnold moved his family to Bunbury WA where he was a Builder when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942. He was a Private (Service No:W95072) attached to 26 Works Coy when he was Discharged in January 1946.

In the early 1950s Arnold and Edith moved to Forrestfield in Perth, WA where he was an Orchardist until 1958. The couple lived in Perth without paid employment before moving to Busselton in 1963, where Arnold worked as a Farm Hand. The couple then moved to Mount Barker in South Australia where Arnold died in 1995 and Edith in 2000.
