5 Jun 1942: | Honoured Distinguished Flying Medal, Air Ministry, 5th June, 1942. ROYAL AIR FORCE. The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the following awards in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy: — Distinguished Flying Medal. Aus.402500 Sergeant Adrian Philip GOLDSMITH, Royal Australian Air Force, No. 126 Squadron. This pilot has destroyed at least 5 enemy aircraft. On one occasion he dived through a strong enemy fighter screen to destroy a bomber. When engaged by the fighters he shot one of them down. |

Pilot Officer Adrian Philip GOLDSMITH, D.F.M., (Aus.4O2500), Royal Australian Air Force, No. 126 Squadron. This officer is a skilful and courageous pilot. In June, 1942, during an attack on a convoy 130 miles from his base, he shot down 2 enemy aircraft. Since being awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, Pilot Officer Goldsmith has destroyed 6 enemy aircraft, bringing his victories to 11. | |

Adrian was the son of Sidney and Philippa Mary (nee Scott-Coward) Goldsmith.
Adrian joined the Royal Australian Airforce on 16.9.1940 -

For his service Adrian was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in 1942 and Distinguished Flying Cross, also in 1942.
In 1941 Adrian married Dorothea Rosemary nee Britton.
(Dorothy was on board M.V. Melbourne Star, on her way to Australia. At 08.23 hours on 2 April 1943 the unescorted Melbourne Star was hit by three of four torpedoes from U-129 about 480 miles southeast of Bermuda. The ship blew up and sank in less than 2 minutes. The master, 70 crew members, eleven gunners and 31 passengers were lost.
In 1944 Adrian married Doris May McGrath.
Adrian passed away on 25.3.1961. His ashes were scattered over the Timor Sea.
