His older brother 2766 Trooper Charles Thomas Elisha Turner of the 3rd New South Wales Mounted Rifles had died of disease (enteric) 21 March 1902, Bloemfontein, South Africa, during the Boer War. He was 20 years of age.

Another older brother, 1766 Pte. Robert West Turner 25th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Ypres 20 September 1917, age 30.
