Noni was born at Ariah Park NSW on 7th June 1923, one of three daughters and three sons to William and Vera Fisher. William Fisher was a returned World War 1 serviceman. The family at this time were 
residing on the family farm at Mirool NSW. Her early school years were at Mirool and she later attended high school in Temora, NSW.

Her academic achievements were recognised by the awarding of the Intermediate Certificate and also achieving Leaving Certificate standard. Noni was known as a highly competitive and successful tennis player. She was also highly regarded as a football player in Mirool.

Completimg her schooling, she gained employment as a Clerk/Secretary at Temora District Hospital and moved to Temora.

After one year, in June 1942 at the age of just 19 years, Noni applied for enrolment in the WAAAF and was formally enlisted and sworn in on the 17th August 1942.

After initial training at Bradfield Park in Sydney, she was posted as Aircraftswoman (ACW) Clerk to 4 Maintenance Group Headquarters in Melbourne. Noni clearly displayed her clerical and leadership skills in this posting by gaining rapid promotion to Corporal in December  1943 and Sergeant in October 1944.

She was discharged "On Demobilisation" on the 3rd January 1946 and returned initially to Temora. At this time she was just 22 years old.

Noni moved to Sydney shortly after and met a returned serviceman, Leslie Wormald, at a church picnic function at Lane Cove National Park. A short romance followed and they were married on the 8th October 1949 in Sydney. Coincidently both Noni and husbane Leslie share the same date of birth, the 7th June 1923.

Noni and Leslie built a new home at Carramar, then an outer suburb of Sydney, and raised three children. After some 33 years, they retired and returned to Temora in the late 1980s. Leslie passed away in 2005 and Noni moved into Southern Cross Village in Temora and later into Greenstone Lodge until she too passed away on the 27th December 2022 at the age of 99 years. They are buried together in Ariah Park cemetery in the Fisher family plot.

Noni's older sister, Daphne Joan Fisher, enlisted in the AWAS in January 1943 and discharged in May 1946. Their younger sister, Avis Enid Fisher, also enlisted in the AWAS in April 1943 and discharged May 1946.

Noni Fisher - was one of 27,000 young Australian women who served her country in the WAAAF during World War 2. She did so willingly without concern about recognition or reward.
