Aircraftwoman Mary Elizabeth Roche (Service No:111058) enlisted in the WAAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 3 January 1944 - mustered as Telgraphist. Aircraftwoman Roche was attached to 2 Operational Training Unit (OTU) at Discharge on 1 February 1946.

Mary was born in Bendigo, Victoria in 1925, seventh of eight children of Matthew McGrath (b1881 in Kimbolton via Bendigo, Victoria) and Mary Martha Tranter (b1886 at Heathcote nr Bendigo, Victoria). Matthew was a Farmer in 1909 when he and Mary Snr married in Bendigo. They settled in Kimbolta where they raised their family and Matthew was a Farmer, and contractor for local shires until his death in 1933.

Mary worked in Melbourne as a Presser/Laundry Hand for Albert Park Steam Laundry before enlisting in the WAAAF. In 1946 in Melbourne she married Garth Stanley Roche (b1924 in Sydney, NSSW) - Garth served in the RAAF (Service No:434478). Mary and Garth settled in Brisbane and by 1949 had separated, with Mary returning to Melbourne where she worked as a Machinist. In 1956 in Melbourne, Victoria Mary remarried to John Daniel Mackie (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria) - John had served in the Army in WWII. Mary and John divorced and Mary remarried. Mary died in Melbourne in 2010.
