Brother of John James Oakman who returned to Australia on 27 December 1918 having served with the 58th Battalion

Husband of Florence Sarah Ann Oakman nee Regester of Roseberry Road, Auburn, Victoria. William and Florence married during 1911c in Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 19 April 1919 aboard HT Sardinia disembarking on 8 June 1919
