Son of Thomas and Ellen Cobham of Mawdsley, Lancashire, England. Brother of Edwin Cobham who died of wounds on the 18 August 1916 while serving with the 6th Battalion and is buried in the Puchevillers Cemtery Plot 11, Row E, Grave 52 and also brother of William Cobham of England
