William Wallace Delany was born to Edward and Emelia Delany at Hamely Bridge in 1878. Before enlisting in war, Delany's occupation was travelling. In his early life, Delany moved to New South Wales and married Emily Delany. His address was 1 Broughton Street, Milsons Point, NSW.

Delany enlisted to go to war on the 8th June 1916. His unit embarked from Sydney on the 25th of October 1916, on board the HMAT A11 Ascanius ship. William Wallace Delany was a private in the 55th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement. He served on the Western front.

Delany had been in the Australian Army for a year and 6 months. He tragically was killed in action in France on the 20th of April 1918. Delany was buried in Aubigny British Cemetery, Somme France. His grave was in Row C, Grave No.1.
