Leading Aircraftman Ronald Harvey Eales (Service No:147428) enlisted in the RAAF on 25 February 1944 as an Aircraftman I at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne - mustered as Trainee Technician, later as General Hand. ACI Eales was attached to No 6 Aircraft Depot Oakey and Works Training Unit (WTU) Wooloomoonata before embarking as an LAC with No 9 Airfield Construction Squadron from Brisbane for Borneo on 21 September 1945 on board SS Christy Mathewson. LAC Eales served in Morotai and Balikapan and was attached to No 9 Airfield Construction Squadron at Discharge on 23 October 1946.

Ron was born in Albert Park, Melbourne Ports, Victoria in 1926, youngest of two children of Garnet Edward Eales DCM (b1896 in Penshurst via Hamilton, Victoria) and Ivy Lena Edmondson (b1903 in Hamilton, Victoria). Garnet worked as a Station Hand and Farm Hand before enlisitng in the AIF, and was a Labourer in Hamilton until 1924. Garnet and Ivy moved to Melbourne Ports in 1925, where they settled and raised their family and Garnet worked as a Labourer and Railway Employee. Garnet was living in Hamilton in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army for service in WWII, and worked as a Well Borer and Linesman in Hamilton until his death in 1961. Ivy worked in Melbourne as a Peace Officer and Clerk.

Ron started work as an Apprentice Electrical Mechanic in 1939 with Olympic Tyre and Rubber Coy, and was an Electrical Mechanic, living in Albert Park with his mother, when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1940. Following his Discharge, Ron returned to Melbourne and was working as an Electrical Mechanic in 1952 when he married Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Jacks (b1927 in Melbourne, Victoria). Ron and Betty had separated by 1954 - Betty was working in Melbourne as a Cutter and Ron as an Electrician. Ron remarried in 1959 to Lillian (Anne) Mima Bull (b1926 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Lillian was a Book Worker in Melbourne. Ron and Lillian settled in Melbourne where Ron worked as an Electrician until retirement when he and Lillian moved to Ballina NSW. Lillian died in 1998 and Ron in 2018.
